America's Biggest Issues: Environment

America's Biggest Issues: Environment

In the 1970s, Americans were told we were in a global cooling crisis
and if something weren't done, we'd enter a new ice age. When that didn't happen,
a few decades later we were told that entire nations could be wiped off the face of this earth by rising sea levels if
the global warming trend was not reversed by the year 2000. Despite the consistent failure of these apocalyptic warnings, that hasn't stopped
climate change alarmism. We're now being told we only have 12 years to combat climate change and the solution is to fundamentally dismantle
the system of free enterprise. That means Washington controls things like how we produce
energy, what food we eat, and what type of cars we drive. The question is, even if
we believed their alarmist, catastrophic predictions, would
their proposals even work? Not according to climate
scientists' own models. Based on those models,
even if the United States cut its carbon dioxide emissions to zero, it would only avert global
warming by a few tenths of a degree Celsius in 80 years. We would see no noticeable
difference in the climate, yet it would come at an
enormous cost to the American people. Climate change is happening
and human activity undoubtedly plays a role, but big government climate
policies are all economic pain, no environmental gain. After all, the purpose of
climate change regulations is to drive energy prices higher so families and businesses
use less energy. Abundant energy sources such
as coal, oil, and natural gas have allowed Americans to
affordably drive to their jobs, light and heat their homes,
and power their refrigerators, computers, and iPhones. On the other hand, more
heavy-handed climate regulations would drive up electricity bills and prices at the pump. Families would be hurt
multiple times over, paying not just more for
energy, but also more for food, clothing, and health care
as energy is critical for every stage of planting, harvesting, manufacturing, and transporting
goods to consumers. These rising costs would
stifle economic growth. One of the most important factors for maintaining a cleaner environment. As a country's economy
grows, the financial ability of its citizens to take care
of the environment grows too. So creating more economy-killing
climate regulations and taxes would not only
harm the livelihoods of the American people, they
would also harm our ability to protect our environment. Instead, government should focus on keeping the economy
strong by reducing taxes and eliminating regulatory barriers to energy innovation. For example, some states produce
clean, cheap, natural gas but excessive regulations and litigation prevent the construction of pipelines to distribute natural gas to
other parts of the country. Furthermore, competitive
electricity markets can give consumers the option
to buy 100% renewable power if they like, and fixing
a broken regulatory system will allow new, innovate,
commercial nuclear technologies to get off the ground. This is how we can ensure
affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy. It's how we can keep our economy growing and ultimately, it's how we can ensure a cleaner
environment for America.

  1. What's all this crap about a "cleaner" America? Climate change isn't about dirty air or water, it's about the emission of greenhouse gases which are raising the temperature and disrupting the jet stream.

  2. Why can't we actually have informative debates in public so that the scare tactics can be debunked. It seems like news outlets should be happy to have a factual debate with statistics being affirmed as either true or false. It seems so wrong to use the scare tactics of climate change to promote globalism which most people can probably see is no solution at all when rogue nations are happy to take the money we offer to fight climate change and spend it any way they want. There is no accountability amongst nations that hate us and think it's a pretty funny joke that we're stupid enough to make the offer of handing out money we really can't spare.

  3. Spent fuel rods don't go away magically – they are hugely radioactive forever. Are they stored onsite near the nuclear plant, thus adding to the radioactivity? They have to be in special expensive containers that most power plants can't afford! Or to store them offsite, how do you transport them? By train, going past cities and towns all across our country? Or by truck where they could be involved in a multiple-car accident, contaminating the area forever? Nuclear plants cannot produce their own power to cool these spent radioactive tubes, so if/when the grid goes down, they have a few days' worth of backup power, and then the explosions begin!

  4. Man made climate change is perhaps the largest hoax ever to have be perpetrated on the people of the world. Every time an "End of the World" date passes, they simply come up with a new one. I was still waiting for Al Gore's prediction to come true, but now I don't have to as AOC (the smartest person in the room, just ask her) tell me that we only have 12 years left.

How can people be fooled by this time and time again. Reminds me of that old saying: "Fool me once shame on your. Fool me twice shame on me!" How about fooled multiple times? How foolish are people who believe in this hoax?

Climate change is nothing more than a huge power and money grab.

BTW – To answer a couple of posters. I was around in the '70s and I remember the global cooling crisis. But it didn't have the punch that global warming has, so they changed it. As far as nuclear power goes, you can reprocess spent fuel into new fuel, thus almost eliminating the storage problem. And modern plants have many advantages over most other forms or energy generation.

  5. We are shocked that you even consider Nuclear as an alternative energy!! WHERE will those spent fuel rods go at the end of their working life? Each nuclear plant emits radiation locally on a nearly continuous basis.. Do you realize that if/when we lose power from the national grid, Every Single Nuclear Power Plan will go into Emergency Status since they cannot cool their fuel rods!!! This has been a HUGE part of the catastrophe at Fukushima! Absolutely NO NO new nuclear power plants!! If you are advocating Nuclear power, we cannot contribute anymore

  6. Hey, I'm on your side- but as to the claim that in the '70s- Americans were told we're in a cooling crisis- I don't recall that and I was around having been born in the '40s. I'd like to see some references to news articles and science publications and enviro group warnings from back then. I know- I know- I can google it- but maybe the presenter of this video can give some links since he's the one presenting the idea.

  7. If we can run on nuclear power, that would be great. If we can go from nuclear fission to nuclear fusion, that would be even better as it makes so much more energy than fission. And nuclear is pretty good for the environment if that’s what we’re worried about.

  8. Big government control and regulation is NEVER the answer to any issue. Bernie, AOC, and Kamala are ignorant fear-mongering propagandists. They want control through oppression; nothing more.

  9. This is all about the ONE WORLD ORDER tactics. Where free enterprise is shut down and everything is owned by the government. Open your eyes people.

  10. News Flash: We have just entered into the mini ice age that was accurately predicted back in the early to mid 1970's.
Cowdung that Man has anything to do with climate change. There is a thing called science that uses things called facts.

  11. When you have a Communist like Bernie Sanders free to run his mouth as well as his minions following suite welcome to Americas version of the SOVIET UNION. People like this used to be put away. Now they run for president. Pitiful! Just pitiful.

  12. There are issues I've seen that I believe may very well become an issue that will need to be dealt with in the future (such as plastic in the ocean and literal rivers of it in third world countries), but it's getting nowhere near as much attention as they should. Admittedly though I am not comfortable with how places like the EPA would potentially deal with it.
