Greta Thunberg's emotional speech to EU leaders

I want you to act as if the house was on fire I have said those words before and a lot of people have has explained why that is a bad idea a great number of politicians have told me that panic never leads to anything good and I agree to panic unless you have to is a terrible idea but when your house is on fire and you want to keep your house from burning to the ground then that does require require some level of panic we are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction and the extinction rate is up to 10,000 times faster than what is considered normal with up to 200 species becoming extinct every single day erosion of fertile topsoil the deforestation of her great worst toxic air pollution loss of insects and Wildlife the acidification of our oceans these are all the sorceress trends being accelerated by a way of life that we get are financially fortunate part of the world sea is all right silly we carry on our house is falling apart and our leaders needs our leaders need to start acting accordingly because at the moment they are not if our house was falling apart our leaders wouldn't go on like you do today he would change almost every part of your behavior as he do in an emergency if our house was falling apart you wouldn't hold three emergency breaks at summers and no emergency summit regarding the breakdown of the clients and new elections are coming up soon and many of us who will be affected the most by this crisis people like me are not allowed to vote nor are we in a position to shape the decisions of business politics engineering media education or science because the time it takes for us to educate ourselves to do that simply does no longer exist and that is why millions of children are taking it to the streets school striking for the climate to create a tension for the climate crisis you need to listen to us we you cannot vote you need to vote for us for your children and grandchildren what we are doing now can soon no longer be undone in this election you vote for the future living conditions with humankind and though the politics needed do not exist today some alternatives are certainly less worse than others and I have read that some parties do not even want me standing here today because they so desperately do not want to talk about climate breakdown to do your best is no longer good enough we must all do the seemingly impossible and it's okay if you refuse to listen to me I am after all just a 16-year old school girl from Sweden but you cannot ignore the scientists or the science for the millions of school chips come striking children worse than striking for the right to a future I beg you please do not fail this [Applause]

  1. Still landing true, I long to see a day where I watch this a go few got pretty close to the tipping point didn't we, However as days turn to years and governments push for slow acting plans. This message it turns from a message of hope to a video of what could have been, 12 years left to make any meaning full change and governments are talking about change by 2050? Like I'm no PHD holder in maths but that strikes me as a few too many years late. I sit here doing my part walk not driving, eating less meat, supporting regrowth projects but compared to the industry we are fighting its an upwards battle that we won't win until the oil-soaked money stops clouding minds.

Unfortunately, it'll take a few big worlds extream events for most governments to take notice and by then it'll be too late, our civilisation is based on reaction, not prevention and that's where we will fall is the last hurdle. I hope I'm wrong but that's my thoughts so far and in 23, my mind should be filled with hope, not this right? It feels like we are moving at a crawl when we should be sprinting with all our might desperately grasping for more ground when there are only 12 years left. Just 12, not the 41 or 30 or 20 most leaders are saying.

  2. It takes a child to point out to the adults that there are more important things going on than Brexit. How many years has this been the main headline? Far too many. Bravo young lady!!!

  3. She is the most sensible, rational voice I have heard on climate change so far, and she is 16?! I hope they listen to her, because she knows exactly what should be happening and actually cares, unlike most leaders seem to. Well said Greta 👏🏻

  4. Many climatologists refute the man made global warming myth but by doing so end their funding and are shunned by the scientific community for not falling into line and singing from the same government sponsored song sheet.

  5. An amazing role model to her peers and multiple generations. I’m proud to support from the U.S. Keep fighting 🤟🏽❤️

  6. I have never heard so much nonsense in my life, she has been forced into saying all these things, this is not free expression, her parents should face legal proceedings!

  8. Great job Greta. You’re an inspiration in a sea full of liars, cheaters, deniers and corporate puppets. I’ve shared this video and will continue to do so with as many people as I can.
I love this young woman's courage and honesty. I hope people, especially politicians will listen to her and take her message seriously.

  9. I wonder who are the 800 individuals who don't like this. It is interesting that these kind of videos usually get about 10% of unlikes vs 90% of likes. 10% of the people are those who are destroying the planet. Those who make huge money through environmental deterioration and social injustice are not happy with this. Scientists have shown that the 10% of the richest population are those who emit 50% of the carbon dioxide, while 50% of humanity, all poor, emit only 10%. Is the same with resources consumption and waste generation. Last year, the richest 10%, all millionaires, got 40% wealth increment, while the poorest 50% got nothing, we are as poor as ever, despite we work as hard as any other person. Economic inequality is one of the things we have to fight. It is behind many of today's social an environmental problems. Africa, the poorest continent, is been looted by multinational companies making billions, while people there keep living in poverty.

  10. 5 minutes later: "oh that cute kid really made me emotional. Now let's get down to business.. where were we? Ah.. USA has covered new oil rich ground in Syria, that is interesting to us, let's strike a deal"
